According to the National Fire Protection Agency(NFPA-211) if a flue liner in a chimney has softened, or cracked, and can no longer contain the products of combustion, it shall be repaired or relined using an approved material.  There are many types of stainless steel liners the best of which is a continuous welded stainless steel liner.  Our technicians will determine which liner is best suited for the appliance venting into the flue that is in need of repair.

A: This is what is known as a smoke transfer problem. Our techician can come out and assess wether it is a internal chimney problem or negative pressure in the basement pulling the smoke exiting from the top of the chimney back down the basement flue.

Q: What is the white powder forming on the outside of our chimney?
A: This powder is called efflourescence. It is a sign in most cases that your furnace chimney liner is failing, it can also be a sign that water is getting into the chimney somewhere. This should be inspected immediately. Water staining on the inside walls of the home can also be a sign that the flue liner is leaking and that the flue needs relining.

Q: How often should I have my chimney cleaned?
A: The National Fire Protection agency recommend annual inspections but as a general rule you should have it cleaned every 1 1/2 face cords of wood burned in the appliance.

Q: How do I determine where water is leaking in?
A: Most companies come out and really just guess. Water that is leaking into your home can be coming in from alot of different areas. The best way to determine this is to water test your chimney. We can come out and pinpoint were water is leaking in in almost every situation. We never just guess. Guessing just leads to more and more money spent trying to fix the problem.
